Scottish Green Awards

The Scottish Green Awards, created by Scottish Business Insider in association with our title sponsor ScottishPower take place on Thursday 30th September at the Glasgow Science Centre.

It is vitally important not to forget one of the world's most pressing issues - our environment. With growing fears about the effects of global warming and the pollution it is becoming increasingly important for individuals, companies and organisations to do all they can to protect our fragile world.

This high profile annual focus promotes Scotland as a country that encourages sustainability, tackles climate change and is committed to improving energy efficiency.

Tim SmitGuest Speaker - Tim Smit

Tim is Chief Executive and co-founder of the Award winning Eden Project near St Austell in Cornwall. Eden began as a dream in 1995 and opened its doors to the public in 2000, since when more than 12 million people have come to see what was once a sterile pit turned into a cradle of life containing world-class horticulture and startling architecture symbolic of human endeavour.

Eden has contributed over £1 billion into the Cornish economy. Eden is proud of its success in changing peopleÕs perception of the potential for and the application of science, by communicating and interpreting scientific concepts through the use of art, drama and storytelling as well as living up to its mission to take a pivotal role in local regeneration.

It demonstrates once and for all that sustainability is not about sandals and nut cutlets, it is about good business practice and the citizenship values of the future.

Stagecoach Group Chief Executive Brian Souter said:

“We are delighted with our two Scottish Green Awards which recognise our commitment to tackling the challenge of climate change by encouraging greater use of public transport as well as reducing our own carbon footprint as a company."

“We hope that, by promoting our message of greener, smarter travel through low-carbon, good value and reliable public transport, we can encourage our customers and staff to think about ways in which they can live greener lives.”

Martin McAdam, CEO, Aquamarine Power:

"Winning the Best Green Industry SME Award at 2009's Scottish Green Awards was a great boost for Aquamarine Power. The award acknowledged all the hard work of our team and recognised that we are driving innovation in the wave power industry to help build a greener future for Scotland and the world."
