It is now generally accepted that the innovative use of technology is critical to the future competitiveness of the Scottish economy. As we all increasingly interact digitally, building communities of practice as well as purchase, what, we ask, is the impact of this new brave continent on the core of all revenue Ð value creation? Researching this potential is part of an ongoing study being conducted jointly by Energise 2-0 and Strathclyde Business School, the outputs of which will detail the extent and impact of digital media usage in Scottish firms.

In tandem with this research, a new award category of Digital Value Creation has been developed for the Scotland plc Awards 2012. This award will recognise companiesÕ activities in adopting and utilizing technological developments to engage with customers, investors, employees and other stakeholders.

Scottish plcs are invited to complete a short questionnaire by clicking on the link above, both for the research study and as self-nomination for the Digital Value Creation Award. Award short listed companies will be contacted to arrange a brief site visit in early February when initiatives and developments can be explored further.

The full research study will be completed early 2012. The Scotland plc Awards will be announced at the Awards Dinner on the 18th April 2012.

Social Investment in Scotland Award

This award takes into account activities such as investment in communities; sponsorship; employee volunteering; executives acting as board members of organisations acting for the public good; and charitable giving.

It is open to all Scottish headquartered companies but also to non Scottish-headquartered companies with a major presence north of the border to acknowledge their achievements. This reflects the fact that many of ScotlandÕs biggest employers are headquartered in England or overseas but their contribution to the country is perhaps not always appreciated.

The judges will be looking at activities between January 2011 and December 2011.
